Career Transformation System: Course Syllabus

Course Overview: This is a career advice course presented by A Harrison Barnes, the founder and CEO of Employment Research Institute, a job opening research company owning 200+ industry and location specific job search websites, more than 50 affiliates devoted to the advancement of professionals at all levels in a variety of industries. Ranging from student loan companies to recruiting firms to job boards to resume-writing services, Employment Research Institute’s affiliates aim to assist professionals every step of the way in their career endeavors.

This 12+ hour DVD course goes into considerable depth about not only tracking down the best jobs, but also finding satisfaction and success in career and life. There are in total 13 modules besides the numerous ongoing videos, exercises and more from Harrison.

Through this course, Harrison shares his unique job search philosophies. The course will help you formulate your career and illustrate how to use your skills most effectively. Harrison uses a number of stories and real life illustrations to get his point across and make the course more interesting.

MODULE 1

This module has two sections:

Section 1: Understanding Your Interests: Developing the Mindset of the Career Transformation System

  • Explore your career and what interests you. In order to have success, nothing is more important than understanding what you are interested in and what you are best at. Find complete transformation and happiness based on the career choices you make.
  • Understand the most effective use of your skills. By putting your efforts into something you are good at, more opportunities open up to you.
  • Use feedback and understand what you are best at.
  • Numerous exercises to discover your likes and dislikes.

Section 2: Understanding Your Interests: Developing the Mindset of the Career Transformation System

  • Explore and understand your likes and dislikes, and your strongest abilities.
  • Real life stories about people who have discovered their greatest strengths.
  • Learn how to overcome obstacles in your life and career by being in a career and job where your confidence is continually growing.
  • Understand and develop the mindset to take control of your career once and for all.

MODULE 2

Where to Look for Jobs

  • Learn and understand the various sources where you can find jobs such as employer sites, job boards, association sites etc.

MODULE 3

This module has five sections:

Section 1: Summing Up employer sites

  • Discusses the advantages of looking for jobs on employer websites.

Section 2: Employer Job Sources- finding employers through directories

  • More about employer sites and just how powerful they are for your job search.
  • Understand how to begin researching jobs from employer sites.
  • How to apply to jobs on employer sites and make the most of your jobs search.

Section 3: SIC Codes from another angle

  • Discussing SIC codes and understanding how to track down jobs using them. Understanding how the codes will allow you to identify the employers you are interested in working for.
  • Identifying employers that are the target market for your skills using SIC codes.

Section 4: SIC and NAIC codes – How to build a list of employers

  • Discussion on various online databases and resources.
  • The process of applying to employers based on the information you have identified.
  • Develop lists of potential employers using online research techniques.

Section 5: Employer Sites – Why they are a good sources of Jobs

  • Discussion on why employer websites are a better source of jobs than job boards.
  • How to find out all the relevant employer websites.
  • Reading between the lines on employer websites and getting more interviews.

Section 6: Employer Sites – Possibly the best source of Jobs
