Mr. Barnes,

You're articles are very inspiring. I read them every day even though I have a job I am passionate about. Keep up the amazing work, as I am sure you have many other followers.

Thank you for your comment. Integrity is one of the most important things we have and I would never suggest sacrificing your integrity. Planting seeds is a way to establish a positive connection with someone and overtime those seeds can lead to tremendous things in your career and your life.

Planting seeds may be good business but some of your advice seems dishonest. "I thought of you while reading this"? In other words, I want this job so I came up with some bogus connection with you!
Integrity is key, whether you get the job or not.

The concept of “planting seeds” as a marketing strategy has really grabbed me as authentic. Your own asphalt marketing experience is proof. However, your reference to Scientology is a misplaced analogy, because with all the planting they never harvested you. Why? Because their philosophy is bogus. A rational person, like yourself or your wife, knew that almost instinctively. There was never a value exchange that made sense to you, even if ,or when ,you had the money…The concept of “planting seeds” as a marketing strategy has really grabbed me as authentic. Your asphalt service, on the other hand, filled a legitimate need at an appropriate time. Don't discount the value added of "word of mouth" affirmation of the value of the service you were rendering-essentially door to door.

You have also confirmed what most marketing experts have discovered: it takes an average of 7-13 contacts to make a sale. The first 1-3 contacts may pass totally unnoticed or unregistered in the conscious mind. That is what basically differentiates Marketing from Sales and why the marketing message, (your brochures, etc) once validated, must be continued, almost indefinitely, if the desired sales are to be obtained. Thanks again for your insight and personal sharing.
