Your commentary/article has merit on many fronts. I agree that seeing you’re self as a business with a product to sell is the only way to look at the job market. As for the age comment, I take it as part of the packaging and knowing the market you’re trying to reach.

While much of what you share has great value, Mr. Barnes, I am very concerned with your statement "They may be too old to get a job"

Since our employment laws were designed to include protection against discrimination for age as well as gender, religion, and many other things, I believe we should all speak up when we see this kind of discrimination exercised. It shouldn't happen, and yet, we both know it does, and we also realize everyone is getting older every day. While some positions are allowed to impose mandatory retirement, at a certain age, such as educators, it really shouldn't be a factor, because age really isn't the barrier - the only consideration should be loss of ability. Since people don't age physiologically at identical rates, this should only be a performance based decision.

I refuse to "hide" my age. With age, comes experience. Experience isn't something you get from school. It comes from life and years. That is how I package it. Older also hopefully means wiser. It also means I have had more years to upgrade and broaden my knowledge base.
