We cannot always choose the circumstances but we can always choose how we respond. And in the end, that is way more important. Thanks for a brilliant discussion of the power of choice in the moment and how those moments of choice literally give us the life we live.

I am a regular reader of your posts on this blog and find them mighty interesting and thought provoking. I comment from time to time. But I am pained to see some of the comments which appear on this blog. Some of these don't make any sense and some are plagiarized verbatim from other readers' comments including mine. This is highly improper. How can such a thing happen when the process of moderation is in place?

I disagree with your claim that health is a choice. People are born with genetic diseases, no one chooses to be a hemophiliac.I enjoyed your article about our lives being controlled by decisions. I would like to interview for some of your positions.

We choose the lives we are going to lead and we choose what happens to us. You have the power to choose in your life, and where you are today is the result of the decisions you made long ago.Centripetal force of a successful career sucks up most of the disappointments from other aspects of one’s life, especially during these economic times. Thank you.

Of course, the career has a pivotal position around which our lives revolve. Centripetal force of a successful career sucks up most of the disappointments from other aspects of one’s life.

While we all should accept responsibility for our own choices, we also must recognize that some things happen beyond our personal control. When those things occur, we choose how we will react, but we haven't necessarily chosen the particular situation, or we expected something different from what was delivered.

When we find ourselves in a situation that isn't what was expected, I don't feel commitment is always the best choice. Sometimes, it is better to stop investing our resources and cut our losses. For example, one product case study, involved a food product. The company had invested millions of dollars. When they introduced it to the public, it caused severe physical distress. They went back to continue development, and they invested several million more dollars, and it still caused serious intestinal issues. In that particular case, commitment wasn't a great idea. You know what the definition of insanity is don't you? According to Tony Robbins, it is "Continuing to do the same thing, and expecting different results."

I agree that you can't give up too easily, and you must have passion to attain excellence. That is the kind of commitment I believe you mean.

I think it is important to help others recognize their own accountability, and what choices are available to them, but it is very easy to blame or criticize them in error. Without walking in someone else's shoes, we may not have all the information to really assess what was or wasn't in their control. For example, the people of Haiti didn't choose to be born there, and many aren't in a position to choose to be somewhere else. They didn't choose to experience the earthquake, but now, as Jack Canfield says, they have a choice about whether they will see themselves as victims or victors.

This post is a good nudge in the right direction. Thank you.
